Petrobras recently awarded SLB three contracts to provide completion hardware and services for up to 35 subsea wells in Petrobras' offshore Buzios Wave II field.
The scope of the contracts includes SLB's full bore electric laminar section control valves and electric downhole safety valves. The contract is a catalyst for Petrobras to electrify its full production system, increasing production availability through more reliable completions.
By moving to electric completions, Petrobras will gain the ability to reliably control more complex subsurface systems. Full electrification of well completions allows for maximum production control of multiple reservoir releases, potentially requiring fewer wells and limiting major repairs over the productive life of wells in the Buzios field.
Much of the technology that will be used by other operators in Brazil's subsalt fields has been developed by SLB's Taubat Engineering Center in Brazil, in partnership with Petrobras' research center CENPES and Total Energy.
Steve Gassen, SLB's president of production systems, said, "By leveraging the electrification and digitization of SLB's completions, Petrobras will improve the efficiency of its field operations in complex and challenging sub-salt reservoirs. "This contract represents an important milestone for Petrobras towards a digitally integrated offshore power production system. It will increase efficiency and deploy innovative technologies in Brazil."
