Greece’s Largest Electricity Transmission Project Starts Operating
Greece’s largest power transmission project - the Crete-Attica HVDC subsea interconnection - commenced operation on May 24, integrating Crete into the national grid for the first time through a €1.1 billion deep-sea cable system spanning over 1,000 km. With 1,000 MW capacity, this EU-funded initiative (€535 million support) reduces annual CO₂ emissions by 500,000 tons, establishing a Mediterranean benchmark for energy transition.
