EnBW has officially inaugurated an 80MW solar farm in Langenenslingen, located in the Biberach district of Baden-Württemberg, Germany. This project, known as the Langenenslingen solar park, is currently the largest photovoltaic (PV) facility constructed in the state. The plant began feeding electricity into the region’s high-voltage grid in May 2025.
The solar farm is expected to produce approximately 90 million kilowatt hours of electricity annually, which is sufficient to meet the average energy consumption of around 30,000 households. Additionally, the facility is projected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 60,000 tonnes per year when compared to conventional power generation methods.
An opening ceremony was held to mark the launch of the solar park, attended by Baden-Württemberg Minister-President Winfried Kretschmann and senior representatives of EnBW. The event highlighted the project's contribution to the state’s clean energy goals and its role in supporting the energy transition.
EnBW CEO Georg Stamatelopoulos stated: “In just five years, we were able to take this large-scale energy infrastructure project from the planning decision to the electricity feed-in – on schedule and below the forecasted costs. We have worked towards this success together, whether in the district and in the municipality, in the responsible authorities, at EnBW or with the project partners.”
Minister-President Winfried Kretschmann commented: “This solar park is a wonderful blueprint for the success of the energy transition in the state. It is an impressive example of how large projects can be implemented quickly, efficiently and within the planned budget.”
The construction phase lasted just over a year and involved the installation of 146,016 solar modules. According to EnBW, the total cost of the multi-million-euro project came in around 10% below the original estimate. The company attributed the cost efficiency and timely progress to streamlined approval processes, particularly for critical infrastructure such as the substation. These accelerated procedures helped avoid potential delays and ensured the smooth development of the project.
The Langenenslingen solar park marks another milestone in EnBW’s renewable energy portfolio and underlines the growing importance of solar energy in Germany’s electricity generation mix. The successful completion of the project aligns with national and regional efforts to expand renewable energy sources and reduce reliance on fossil fuels.
By delivering clean energy to tens of thousands of households and demonstrating efficient project execution, the Langenenslingen facility sets a strong example for future solar initiatives across the region.
