FlexGen Power Systems, a provider of energy storage technology, has completed the acquisition of assets and intellectual property from Powin. This move strengthens FlexGen’s role in supporting over 25 gigawatt hours of battery energy storage systems across more than 200 sites in ten countries, leveraging its advanced software and services.
The acquisition received approval from the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of New Jersey in early August 2025. It bolsters FlexGen’s capabilities in delivering grid-scale storage solutions, addressing the growing global demand for reliable energy infrastructure.
Kelcy Pegler, CEO of FlexGen, stated: “Batteries are critical to meeting the world’s growing demand for affordable, reliable electricity. This is more than an acquisition – it’s a reflection of FlexGen’s commitment to immediate continuity and the future of grid-scale storage. FlexGen’s proven operational excellence, hardware-agnostic software and commitment to innovation uniquely position us to maximise the value of these Powin assets today, while enhancing the reliability and performance of energy grids worldwide for years to come.”
To ensure seamless service, FlexGen has integrated former Powin employees into its workforce, preserving critical technical expertise. This allows existing Powin customers to experience uninterrupted support and access to FlexGen’s HybridOS platform, which enhances system performance and longevity.
Powin CEO Brian Kane commented: “Powin is proud of the technology and projects we’ve delivered. The goal was to ensure that those systems and customers are supported by an industry leader that provides the support and services enabling reliable, long-term operation. Based on their experience and reputation, and having collaborated with their team in recent days, we have full confidence that FlexGen is that leader.”
The acquisition aligns with FlexGen’s broader efforts to advance energy storage solutions. In April 2025, FlexGen partnered with Trina Storage to deploy a 371-megawatt-hour energy storage system in Texas, developed by SMT Energy. The project features Trina Storage’s innovative Elementa 2 solution, highlighting FlexGen’s commitment to cutting-edge technology.
This strategic acquisition positions FlexGen as a leader in the energy storage sector, enhancing its ability to meet global energy demands with reliable, scalable solutions. The integration of Powin’s assets and expertise reinforces FlexGen’s mission to support sustainable energy infrastructure worldwide.
